Background

The Barts Health Data Platform (BHDP) has three major components:
•  Data Portal: Our public website where you can apply to access data and monitor the progress of your request.
•  Analysis Data Core: Our dedicated data warehouse where we bring data in from across the hospital and transform it to be research ready.
•  Secure Data Environment: A cloud-based analysis environment where data can be securely analysed.

More background on the development of the Barts Health Data Platform is available.

Documentation

We provide documentation on the use of the different components of the BHDP and a video of our launch workshop is available which provides more details on how the different components of the BHDP operate.

Plans

The BHDP is available for projects to use with patient data that have been endorsed by our Data Access Committee. We are funded by Barts Charity until June 2027 and our future roadmap includes the following high-level objectives:

 •  December 2024: Release a new version of the BHDP that expands access from beyond the Electronic Patient Record from the hospital with patient images (e.g. X-rays, CT scans, etc.).
•  Spring/Summer 2025: Based on user feedback and our continued developments, make a full production release of the BHDP to support the full range of analysis activities.
•  Spring/Summer 2025: Provide a complete release of the Barts Health data that can be searched using the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) Common Data Model (CDM).

Support

Support is provided on a best effort basis by the team. Either create an issue in our public GitHub Project or email the details to bartshealth.researchdatasupport@nhs.net.
